Back in college I already liked to tinker. I installed every Windows I could get my hands on, from XP through Vista. After graduation came Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10, 11, and a stack of Linux distros — Ubuntu, Manjaro, OpenSUSE — each one costing real time.

These days Teacher Tan has plenty of development work. This Windows 10 box has been around for years: random apps, random downloads, and I am too lazy to clean house. Every so often — maybe six months, maybe two years — I wipe the disk and reinstall. That is expensive: environments have to be rebuilt, tools reinstalled.

Since I wrote this first post, a year and a half has already gone by.
